Goan Gawar Bhaji Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Sunflower Oil
  • 250 grams Gawar Phali (Kothavarangai / Cluster beans)
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • Asafoetida (hing) - a pinch
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Tomatoes
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • Salt - to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh coconut - grated
  • Coriander (Dhania) Leaves - chopped

Instructions

  1. To begin making the Goan Gawar Bhaji Recipe, wash and chop cluster beans
  2. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan
  3. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida
  4. After 15 seconds, add turmeric powder, green chillies and onions
  5. Cook till the onions become soft and translucent
  6. Now add tomatoes and saute till mushy
  7. Add cluster beans, salt and mix
  8. Add some water, cover and cook till cluster beans are cooked
  9. Mix in between
  10. Once the cluster beans is cooked and water has dried up, switch it off
  11. Garnish with grated coconut and chopped coriander
  12. Serve Goan Gawar Bhaji along with Keerai Sambar and Steamed Rice for a weekday meal
